Baby Aspirin: Not for Babies!

Childrens Health

While baby aspirin may be recommended to help prevent heart attacks, strokes, and other types of cardiovascular illness in adults, its dangers for adults are as serious as its dangers for children, including gastrointestinal bleeding.

Children and teenagers should avoid taking aspirin, or other over-the-counter medications that either contain aspirin or other salicylates, if they have chickenpox, the flu or flu-like symptoms, or other types of viral illnesses. In situations such as these, aspirin use has been linked to Reye Syndrome, a serious condition which, although rare, has been known to cause death.

The occurrence of Reye Syndrome has certainly declined, mostly due to all the warnings about the use of aspirin in children. However, despite this decline in the number of cases, it does continue to exist.

The best way to keep your child, and yourself for that matter, healthy and safe is to carefully research the side effects of aspirin (and other drugs) and to maintain a routine chiropractic adjustment schedule to keep your child’s immune system functioning properly so that he/she can remain healthy!

As for adults who use baby aspirin, the same may be true, and even though your physician might recommend a daily baby aspirin, make sure you know the potential risks of gastrointestinal bleeding. Know the facts!
